07/31/2012 Barry County Sheriff's Office conducts Checkpoint |

The Barry County Sheriff's Department in cooperation with the Southwest Missouri DWI Task Force held a Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday, July 28th. The event, which was conducted on State Highway 37 south of Purdy, found two intoxicated drivers. "Our Officers and Task Force worked a total of five hours on Saturday, locating several intoxicated drivers along with numerous other violations," explained Deputy Steve Jabben. Jabben stated the checkpoint located the following: 2 DWI's, 1 Felony Warrant Arrest, 1 Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest, 2 Child Safety Seat Violations, 1 Driving While Revoked, 16 No Insurance Violations and 16 No Drivers License Violations. A total of 337 vehicles were contacted during the event. The Newton/Jasper County MADD Chapter assisted in the set up and take down of the checkpoint. "We have these events several times a year to promote safe driving and take intoxicated drivers off of our roadways." Sheriff Mick Epperly stated. "With several alcohol related fatalities over this past year, we feel these checkpoints are a valuable tool for our county."
