Active Shooter Training at Wheaton School

Sheriff Mick Epperly would like to announce that the Barry County Sheriff’s Office along with Wheaton Police Department will be staging an active shooter training exercise at the Wheaton School on Monday February 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.  According to Sheriff Epperly, the purpose of the exercise is to train School Staff, Law Enforcement and Emergency Personnel on different scenario’s that could happen when you have an active shooter enter a school.  The exercise will include a complete simulation from the time a shooter enters the school building. There will be no students at the school on this day just school personnel.   Several agencies will be involved in the exercise: Barry County Sheriff, Wheaton Police, Cassville Police, Purdy Police, Exeter Police, Missouri State Patrol, Wheaton First Responders, Wheaton Fire, Exeter Fire, Barry County 911 and Cox Ambulance will all be participating.  There is also a staging area for media if anyone from the media would like to attend the exercise.  Briefing will begin at 1:00 pm at the Wheaton School Gymnasium to go over the training exercise.  If you have any questions, you can contact Sheriff Mick Epperly at 417-847-6953 or Wheaton Police Chief Clint Clark at 417-671-1294 .  Sheriff Epperly would also like to state that this is an exercise only to be used for training school staff and emergency services on how to deal with an active shooter in the school.
