School's Out!

As we approach summer, the Barry County Sheriff's Office is preparing for one of the busiest times of the year. We congratulate all area graduates and wish them the best of luck in the future, whether away at college, starting a career, or somewhere in between!

With more people outdoors and participating in activities, it is important that we take precautions to ensure the safety of our community.

We would like to remind everyone to prioritize safety and responsibility during this season of relaxation and fun. Whether you are hiking, swimming, enjoying a neighborhood barbeque, or just spending time with family and friends, please be mindful of your surroundings and take steps to avoid accidents or injury.

Always stay cool, hydrated, and informed about extreme heat in the area during your fun-filled outdoor activities.

Extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days. In extreme heat, your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to heat-related illness, or even death.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has the following tips to protect yourself from the dangers of extreme heat:

  • Check the local news for health and safety updates.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Never leave children or pets in cars.
  • Take cool showers or baths to cool down.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and sunscreen (SPF of at least 15).

For more information on extreme heat protection, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Barry County Sheriff's Office wishes everyone a happy, safe, and healthy start to the summer season. Congratulations again to our graduates!
